Mr. Rufus Ragin, a son of the late Charlie and Maggie Isaac Ragin was born
on February 13, 1938 in Summerton, SC and departed this life on Sunday
morning, September 15, 2013 at his residence.
He was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. After graduation,
Rufus moved to New York City and later to Utica, New York..
Rufus retired from Tenneco Energy in 1997 after 25 years of service. He moved
to Sumter, SC after retiring and rejoined Historic Liberty Hill AME Church,
Summerton, SC. Rufus was a loving and caring person.
He was preceded in death by a son, Keith Ragin.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories; a daughter, Mary Hopson of
Charlotte, NC; two brothers, George (Alethia) Ragin of Sumter, SC and James
(Martha) Ragin of Summerton, SC; three sisters, Rutha (Bobby) Holley of
Sumter, SC, Luetina Ragin of Summerton, SC and Margaret (Otis) Johnson of
Bronx, NY; a sister-in-law, Vera Ragin of Bronx, NY; two grandchildren, Kevin
Green of Charlotte, NC and Keith Omar Ragin of Utica, NY; three great-
grandchildren, Kearia, Jaida and Kevin, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends. A special friend, Yvonne Delay and her children, Danika,
Erica and Kentwan.
The family is receiving friends at the home, 2025 Essex Drive, Sumter, SC.
