Mr. Leonard Roberts, Sr. was born on Friday, May 15, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY to the late
Emmanuel Roberts and Annie Threatt Roberts.
He graduated from high school and joined the United States Navy. He worked various
trucking jobs before becoming an engineer for the federal government, working civil service
both in Brooklyn and Manhattan, NY.
While living in New York, he met and married the late Everlee Lawson Roberts. To this
union, one child was born and later another son, Daniel was adopted.
Upon moving to the birthplace of his wife, Leonard became a member of Historic Liberty
Hill A. M. E. Church, Summerton, SC.
Leonard entered into the eternal rest on Monday, April 9, 2018 at his residence in
He was preceded in death by an adopted son, Daniel Roberts, a step-daughter,
Nadine, four sisters, Edith, Cynthia, Muriel, Ruth and Eleanor; four brothers, Robert,
Emmanuel, Samuel and Joseph.
He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memories: a son, Leonard Roberts, Jr.,
of Queens, NY; a sister, Joan Roberts of Chesapeake, VA; a step-son, Naylor Robinson of
Queens, NY and a step-daughter, Veronica Lawson of Brooklyn, NY; 16 grandchildren, 28
great-grandchildren; special nephews, Simon Lwson, Joseph Lawson, Virgil Lawson, Troy
Roberts and George Roberts; special nieces, Hilda Lawson Robinson and Connie Roberts,
a special great-niece, Safira Wilson and a host of other relatives that have been helpful as
Leonard aged; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Edwards, who was also a blessing to his life; and
a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family is receiving friends at the home, 1241 Hurricane Falls Lane, Summerton, SC.
