Mrs.  Alethia Samuels Ragin, a daughter of the late Henry and Rosa Robinson Samuels was
born on
Monday, August 3, 1936 in St. Matthews, South Carolina.

She was a graduate of John Ford High School in St. Matthews, SC. After graduating, she
relocated to New York City.
Alethia began her  career in education with the New York Public School
System and many years later retired as an Administrative Assistant with the New York City Health
and Hospital System.  After retiring, she returned to her home state of South Carolina, where she
joined Historic Liberty Hill A.M.E. Church, Summerton, SC.

She departed this earthly life on  Saturday, January 7, 2017 at  Palmetto Health-Tuomey,
Sumter, SC .

Alethia Ragin was regarded as "A Pillar" to her family.  She was smart, generous and  loving.
Her greatest attribute was her inner strength, like stone, brick or metal- the same qualities that
support superstructures.
Alethia was an upstanding woman as a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt,
in-law, friend and neighbor.  Just as any "Pillar" that supports a structure,
Alethia Ragin was
indispensible.

She leaves to mourn her passing and grow from her memories: her
loving husband, George W.
Ragin;
two daughters, Cheryl and  Lisa; two sons,  George Franklin and Alphonso; 15
grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren,
six sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law and a host of nieces,
nephews and close
friends.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 1851 Hialeah Parkway, Sumter, SC.
